Artisan Academy

Artisan Academy preserves and elevates traditional craftsmanship through modern design. Rooted in woodworking, every curve, cut, and finish tells a story marked in precision and heritage. The academy nurtures both aspiring makers and seasoned artisans, combining skill, style, and respect for the creative process.

The Problem

Artisan Academy needed a way to communicate their values across both digital and physical touchpoints, from their website to in-store product displays at Commune. We started from scratch and built it from the ground up.

The Solution

We translated their passion for traditional woodworking into a cohesive visual identity, a warm and intuitive website, and a range of physical touchpoints including retail packaging, hangtags, and hand-drawn instruction sheets. Every design decision, from colour palette to unboxing experience, was made to honour the craft and connect with both new and seasoned makers.

Branding

Artisan Academy needed an identity that could honour the weight of traditional woodworking while still feeling fresh and relevant to a modern audience. We began with extensive moodboarding, exploring a range of atmospheres and colour directions before narrowing down to a palette that the client chose for its warmth, tactility, and timeless quality.

From there, we developed a full visual identity system — selecting typefaces that balanced craftsmanship with clarity, and building out brand guidelines that ensured every element felt intentional. The result was a cohesive look and feel that didn't just represent the academy visually, but told the story of what they stood for: precision, heritage, and a deep respect for the creative process. When everything came together — the colours, the fonts, the logo — Artisan Academy finally had an identity that felt as considered as the work they teach.

Website

With a strong brand identity in place, the next challenge was bringing it to life digitally in a way that felt true to the academy's spirit. The goal was simple: make it feel like stepping into the workshop, just online.

We explored multiple layout directions before settling on a long-form landing page built around modular content blocks — a 4-column card grid for course listings, a 2-column split feature section for storytelling, and a 3-column testimonial layout to build trust. Every design decision was made with the user journey in mind, giving visitors an intuitive way to explore courses, learn about the craft, and connect with the brand's human touch through every scroll. The final site strikes a balance between clean, modern structure and the handcrafted warmth that defines Artisan Academy — welcoming to newcomers, yet credible enough for seasoned artisans.

Physical Extensions

A strong brand doesn't stop at the screen. Artisan Academy also needed to show up in the real world — specifically at Commune, a lifestyle and design store where they showcase their DIY woodworking kits. The challenge was designing packaging that could hold its own in a curated retail environment while still feeling unmistakably Artisan Academy.

We approached the physical extensions as a continuation of the brand ecosystem, not an afterthought. The kit boxes were designed to blend seamlessly into Commune's calm, contemporary aesthetic — understated, tactile, and quietly confident. To add a layer of playfulness, we created hangtags for extension packs that let users customise their kits over time, swapping out different components to make each piece their own. Finally, we designed hand-drawn instruction sheets to complete the unboxing experience — replacing sterile diagrams with warm illustrations that invite the maker to slow down, enjoy the process, and take pride in building something by hand. Every physical touchpoint was designed to feel like an extension of the same story the brand and website were already telling.
